OurWackyWorld Exclusive Free Quilting Patterns
The following patterns were created by Rachel Sanfordlyn
Shreckengast. In most cases, the quilt designs were
created in homage to someone I know or love. Each of my four
children have a quilt dedicated to them, though I'm so busy lately that
only my oldest currently has a quilt made by Mom! The patterns not created
in homage to someone are often inspired by a place or a situation.
Samantha's Stars
My daughter Samantha loves stars, so a star quilt is a natural
choice for her. As Mom was making a quilt for Gram, Samantha
decided that she needed one as well. Her requests for a blue quilt
with stars inspired the first design, while the second was inspired
by the original and forms various stars and floral designs, depending
on the fabrics you use and which areas you choose to highlight. Both
designs are 3 blocks by 4 blocks.

Alexandra's Royal Star Roses
Since Samantha wanted a quilt design, so did Alexandra. In order to be
fair, I tried to keep within the star theme, but I had to be subtle with
Alexandra's design. Alexandra, you see, is a princess. Flowers and fancy
designs are pretty cool, but her quilt can't look like her older sisters.
This quilt is pink and purple (of course!), reminds me of country Victorian style design
elements and has the unique feature of looking like there are roses amongst
fields of stars. Make it in velvets and satins and it fits the theme even more.
One princess mission accomplished! 3 blocks by 4 blocks

Veronica's Chapel Windows
Veronica did not pick this quilt out, but it was created while I was
pregnant with her. At the time, I was getting ready to write an article on
weddings in Las Vegas. The numerous wedding chapels that I viewed while on
vacation there is the inspiration for this quilt. I named the quilt "Chapel
Windows" because the finished design and colors reminds me of stained glass
windows that are often found in wedding chapels. Although Veronica did not
initially pick it out, it does go along with the star theme and she calls it
the "when I was in Mommy's belly" quilt. 4 blocks by 6 blocks

Griffin's MonoDramatic
Griffin wasn't even a glimmer in our eye's when I created this quilt.
I named the quilt "Monodramatic" because it is a monochromatic and
dramatic quilt. Initially, my husband wanted this quilt to be made for him,
but he recently learned that I am working on a quilt for him and it's not this
one. So, he decided that it's only fitting to pass the design onto his son.
Our son is the calm, cool and collected type so the soothing nature of this
quilt does fit his personality rather well. 4 blocks by 6 blocks.

Desert Sunset
While on vacation in Vegas in 98', I visited my father in Arizona. This quilt is
inspired by my first desert sunset. It was a beautiful site and the reds,
pinks, and oranges inspired the colors. I also wanted to create an "American
Indian" feel so was inspired by the geometric shapes in Navajo designs. If you
look at the corners of each block, you will see four eagles. The
first example a wallhanging with borders and is 3 blocks by 3 blocks. The
second is without borders and is 3 blocks by 4 blocks.
Baby Sea Jewels
This quilt design was created somewhat by accident. I was attempting to
create a quilt which showcased various gemstones. It didn't work out that way,
but I love this design anyways. To me, it has the suggestion of jewels along
with the motion of the sea...hence the name. It's colors are soft, yet bright.
This would make a great baby quilt. 4 blocks by 5 blocks.

Baby Bows - Boys vs. Girls
When you are pregnant, you always wonder whether it's going to be a
girl or a boy. At the time I created these two quilt designs (a variation
on the same theme), I was facing that very question. I named the girl
version "Pastel Persuasions" and the boy version "Primary Preferences". The
girls version was created first and was inspired by those little plastic baby
barrettes. A few days later, a sailor suit bow caught my eye and the idea for
the boy version was created. Oh, and the baby was a she. Years later, the next
baby was a he. Both quilts were designed as baby quilts and are 3 blocks by
4 blocks with stripping in between.
